Representing voters who brought a constitutional challenge to gerrymandered legislative and Congressional districts, Patterson Harkavy filed a powerful brief in the North Carolina Supreme Court on January 21. The brief describes what is at stake: “Extreme partisan gerrymanders like the 2021 Congressional, House, and Senate Plans trample the fundamental constitutional right of millions of North Carolinians to vote in elections that fairly and truthfully reflect the popular will, to participate equally in the political process, and to join with others to advance their political beliefs.” We asked the Court to direct an efficient remedial process so that lawful maps are in place for the 2022 elections. The Court will hear oral arguments on February 2. Read the brief here.
